BBC news story on fuel prices

Managing Director Danny Booth Speaks on BBC News

Bu-Val Buses give their views on the fuel prices to BBC

“Value is in our name”

Booth, Managing Director of Bu-Val Buses spoke about the impact of fuel prices on BBC news to be aired at 1pm today.

Fuel prices have hit record highs due to several factors, most recently the VAT increase. Danny explains how bus operators are hit even more than members of the public when fuel prices surge due to the Fuel Rebate for transport companies.

“Dating back to 1998 the rebate hasn’t kept pace with changes in fuel prices, and this means that a 10% increase in fuel prices means an actual increase in costs for us of about 17%” Danny explains. The complicated rebate formula is a mixed blessing for bus companies, and puts pressure on prices as fuel prices increase.

“Although it’s incredibly difficult, we’re not raising our prices now, and in fact have recently had some of our lowest prices ever. ‘Value‘ is in our name! I’d just like to thank all our regular customers for our loyalty during these difficult times.”
